| Proms 2002 home Sunday 21 July 2002 at 7.30pm, gates open 4.30pm The Bootleg Beatles The longest-running and most popular Beatles tribute band in the world It was 23 years ago today... Formed in 1979, The Bootleg Beatles are one of Britain's most popular bands, with their immaculate recreation of the sights and sounds of the Fab Four live on stage. Recent years have seen them headline in front of crowd of 90,000 as well as supporting such acts as Oasis, The Corrs and the Manic Street Preachers. The band, with a little help from the Duke String Quartet and Brass Ensemble, use original 60s instruments to recreate all your favourite numbers, including many never performed in stage by the Beatles themselves. If you were not there in the sixties (or if you can't remember it!) this is the closest you will ever get. With special guests The Counterfeit Stones From Finland to Tokyo, and lots of bits in between, the Counterfeits have sent audiences potty with "a living cartoon of how the Rolling Stones were in their heyday".
