and Martin Dodd for UK Productions present Ruth Madoc as Dorothy Brock and James Smillie as Julian Marsh in a major new production of the Broadway Song and Dance Fable – 42nd Street – which begins a national tour at the Pavilion Theatre Rhyl on Friday 20th August 1999.

42nd Street is the most famous backstage musical of all time. It tells of young unknown Peggy Sawyer, who becomes an overnight star when leading lady Dorothy Brock breaks her ankle and she steps into the leading role. The show-stopping score by Harry Warren and Al Dubin includes such classics as Lullaby of Broadway, We’re In The Money, Dames, Shuffle Off To Buffalo, and 42nd Street.

George May
directs and choreographs; Richard Holmes is Musical Director; Lighting Designer is John Port, Sound Designer is Glen Beckley.

Ruth Madoc
is probably best known for her performance as Gladys Pugh in the hugely successful comedy series Hi de Hi which ran at the top of the ratings on BBC Television for many years. She will be making a welcome return to our television screens during the late summer / autumn in a major new eight part BBC drama The Gatekeeper. Ruth has many West End and Provincial Theatre tours to her credit in both plays and musicals. James Smillie is known internationally as Dr Dan Marshall in the hit TV series Return to Eden. James has also starred in many West End musicals with his most recent being the lead role in Mack and Mabel at the Piccadilly.
