Andrew O'Connor, one of today's most popular television stars, is winning nightly standing ovations for his performance in the title role of the hugely successful new production of BARNUM, which is on a national tour. Barnum is presented by Peter Frosdick for UK Productions and Martin Dodd. Future dates include; Portsmouth, Worthing, Southend, Lowestoft, Liverpool, Blackpool, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Cardiff, Swansea, Bradford, Hanley, Yeovil, Oxford, Buxton and Stevenage. Barnum traces the career of America's greatest showman from his 'humble beginnings' to the forming of the legendary Bamum and Bailey Circus - 'The Greatest Show on Earth'. Leading roles are played by; Kristin Blaikie (Charity), Roland Powell (Ringmaster), Sally Anne Hayes (Jenny Lind), Neil Smye (Tom Thumb), and Dawn Michael (Joice Hem). Also appearing; Tania Whatley, Claire Worboys, Joanna Kyprianou, Sarah Day, Angle Wallis, Andrea Stevens, Derek Munn, David Cadmore, Stuart Vaughan, Robert Armstrong, Adam Kavanagh, Andrew Rothwell and Nancy French. Also strongly featured are speciality circus entertainers including - Shaun Cook, Clare Anderson, David Downie and Abigail Yeates. The score is by famed composer Cy Coleman, Lyrics by Michael Stewart and book by Mark Bramble. Barnum is directed by David Kelsey, choreographed by Angela Hardcastle with Richard Holmes as musical director, lighting designed by Bob Bustance, sound designed by Tom Button with settings by Andrew Hollett. This spectacular new production has a brand new set with lavish costumes and circus props. The first class musicians play such Cy Coleman hits as 'The Colors of my Life', 'Come Follow the Band', 'Join the Circus' and There is a Sucker Bom Ev'ry Minute'. Andrew O'Connor trained for 4 months for his arduous role - and he performs tricks never before seen - such as walking backwards on the tightrope, juggling with fire and getting out of a strait jacket. Andrew came to TV fame as a comedian/presenter, starring in 'Copycats' 'Chain Letters', Talkabout', and 'Happy Families'. As a stage actor he appeared in 'Billy' (Edinburgh Festival) and in The Italian Idol' (Old Fire Station, Oxford). He recently completed a year's run on tour in the musical 'Me and My Girl', for which he received huge critical acclaim. He wrote and produced the Saturday ITV television quiz 'Raise the Roof. |
